Alain PILETTE is a Belgian lawyer. Aged 37, he is married with two children. He has a law degree from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), a Master Degree (post-graduate) in international and European law from the Dutch-speaking Free University of Brussels (VUB) and a Master Degree (post-graduate) in European law from the French-speaking Free University of Brussels (ULB). Before joining the European Convention Secretariat, he was:
- a member of the Brussels bar (1990-1995);
- a legal adviser with SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques: Airline Telecommunications and Information Services) (1995-1997);
- an administrator with the European Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs and the Internal Market (1997-2000);
- a member of the Legal Service of the Council of the European Union (2000-2002).
